Welcome to the new website for The Protection of the Holy Theotokos church. We hope that this website will guide you to a knowledge of the Christian Orthodox faith, the oldest Christian faith in the world and one of the first few historic Christian churches in America. On this site we hope to post details of our own community and its services, events, and needs. But beyond this we also wish to inform the Austin community of the rich tradition of Orthodoxy, which is little-known in Austin and in Texas, despite its being the second largest Christian communion in the world. We want to share with you the wonderful lives of the new Christian martyrs who suffered for the Lord in our day and age, both from Communists who wanted to wipe out all religion, and from people of other faiths, people who didn't understand the message of Christ. We also provide information on the saints, feasts, and fast days, so that Orthodox faithful can follow the church calendar and make it a part of their lives. We also make available here books which can help a person to learn about the Christian Orthodox Church (Eastern Orthodoxy) and how the other churches came into existence by splitting from it. It is helpful to know why they split, and why our church did not accept theological change, preserving and passing along an older way. We also hope to provide information on how a Christian Orthodox person can live a truly Christian existence in the middle of a non-Christian society. How do we intersect with our society and its trends, such as consumerism, capitalism, socialism, relativism, and other -isms? Have we actually lost the ancient Christian way of life, in our day and age? If so, how do we reclaim it for ourselves and our families?
