Progress Continues at the New Church
|
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, On Tuesday, June 14, 2011, master iconographer Dmitry Shkolnik of Moscow and Jordanville, began the process of producing the handpainted Icons for our new iconostas. Various people are still giving donations for the support of this holy work. Please give as you are able, and earmark your donations with the word "Iconostas." Mr. Skholnik is a master artisan who has done the iconography for cathedrals and churches all across the nation. The icons will all have a full gold-leaf background and will be in the style of the classical "Novgorod" school of historic Russian Orthodox iconography. Many folks are out of town at this time, and we will see even more vacationers as we get deeper into the summer. Many thanks to those who have "carried the ball" in the absence of our choirmistress Dominica McGinnis. Our trapeza schedule has been filled up again with volunteer names. A spiffy-looking, glass commercial-style display case was donated to the church and placed in the bookstore and candle sales room. Many devotional items have been placed out in public view on other bookshelves and tables as well as in the glass case. Voluntary donations for such items are placed in the slot of the donations box on the counter. To "target" your donation to a particular purpose (building fund, charitable work, candles, icon, prayer rope) just take one of the envelopes and write the purpose on it. Enclose the funds, and drop the envelope into the slot. The Sisterhood of the Myrrh-Bearing Women has added a new member. Welcome, Maria. Sisterhood sisters and helpers did a deep cleaning of the church and rearranged the library room, on Tuesday after Pentecost. The rooms look very attractive now. Continue to keep in mind that there are no Saturday services at this time. Again, this is due to Fr. Aidan's work schedule. He has to use up vacation time to cover each and every Vigil service, and was running out of available vacation. Though it is not currently not sustainable, we hope to restore the traditional Saturday services as soon as possible. Andrew's family is moving to the area and we are so glad to welcome them into our community. We have five people currently studying to be received into the church and catechisms are occurring on Wednesdays after the Vespers service. So far these classes have been educational and inspirational! You are welcome to join us for these sessions. Children's education continues to be held on the first Sunday of every month. The handmaid of God Maria was baptized two Sundays ago. These are just some of the events happening in the life of our church. Prayers are asked for the soul of handmaid of God Margarita, who passed away last week. Nick is travelling to attend the memorial services and asks for prayer. We pray also for his safe return. Rev.
